Frequently asked questions.

What is Sport Rehabilitation?

Sport Rehabilitators help people suffering from pain, injury or illness involving the musculoskeletal system. They help people of all ages and all backgrounds to maintain their health and fitness, recover from and prevent injury and reduce pain using exercise, movement and manual based therapeutic interventions.

What to expect from your Sport Rehabilitator?

An initial consultation will offer an in-depth interview and physical assessment to identify an appropriate diagnosis, any predisposing factors to injury and any other health related disorders. Your Sport Rehabilitator will then use clinical reasoning to tailor a recovery plan to return you to optimum function and physical activity. You can expect your Sport Rehabilitator to integrate advice, assessment, education and rehabilitation into all aspects of your life.

Sport Rehabilitators are trained to carefully record and protect all personal information, including relevant sensitive information as part of the treatment session. Effective record keeping also ensures that your Sport Rehabilitator can ensure accurate and appropriate progression in your ongoing care.

What might my treatment include?

Treatment will incorporate a comprehensive assessment, evidenced based therapeutic interventions and exercise with the plan being monitored and modified where needed. This could include exercise rehabilitation, graded activity, manual therapy, workplace assessment and modification, massage, taping / bracing and electrotherapy.

Absolutely not, although we are sport injury specialists we treat all musculoskeletal conditions to help alleviate pain or injuries. Several of our patients suffer from frequent aches, pains, strains and even injuries caused by bad posture, work and lifestyle. One of the greatest ways to effectively treat these issues is through deep tissue and sports massage. You do not have to frequently or do any type of exercise or sport to achieve the benefits of a sports massage.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing or sports shorts. We need to be able to access and asses joints, as well as overall posture, which may include some tests such as sit to stand squatting movements. Patients are always covered with a towel during treatment.

On average 3-5 sessions should get you into a good position and at least empower you with the knowledge to help progress yourself beyond this point. Most of our patients choose continuing with sports massage and maintenance sessions every 4-6weeks.

Sports Massage: There is no limitation to how much you can attend for sports massage most will attend either bi weekly / monthly. Depending on activity level and their goals. Elite and Professional athletes will attend weekly.

DOES SPORTS MASSAGE AND TREATMENT HURT?

Some types of massage are more superficial and relaxing. Sports massage works deeper into the body’s soft tissue and can be slightly uncomfortable. The therapist will always keep check on how the pressure is and gauge how you react to deeper techniques in certain areas.
